After midnight on Thursday, announcements were made from multiple mosque loudspeakers calling for resistance against the robbers. In response, ordinary citizens took to the streets armed with sticks and rods. Around 8-10 mosques in Valuka Upazila broadcasted these warnings.
Valuka Model Police Station OC Shamsul Huda Khan said, *”Someone or some group made announcements from 8-10 mosques in the upazila, calling for resistance against dacoits. When a video of this went viral on social media, the news spread instantly across the upazila. Many became alarmed after seeing social media posts and hearing the mosque announcements. Following the announcements, people started night patrols in different areas with sticks.”* However, the OC dismissed the dacoit scare as a “rumor.”
