Plaintiffs in July 24 fake case face charges, July martyr count under question

Dhaka: The plaintiffs in the cases are facing a major setback in the investigation of the July Movement-related murder cases. The reports submitted by various special units of the police have revealed one after another false information, false allegations and evidence of motivated cases. This not only has caused harassment of innocent people, but also raises serious questions about the so-called ‘July martyrs’ list and gazette.

The investigation agencies said that evidence of false information has been found in at least 110 cases. In these cases, cases have been filed to show a living person as dead, to accuse a dead person, to collect money owed, to take personal revenge and to harm a political opponent. Police headquarters and CID officials say that in some cases, murder cases have been filed by presenting a living person as a martyr. Punitive action is being taken against these plaintiffs. One or two cases have already been filed and the rest of the information has been sent to the tribunal.

The investigation has revealed more sensational information about the July martyrs list. Bakher Ali (pseudonym ‘Kabir’), a fugitive convicted of murder and sentenced to death, has been included in the controversial gazette as a July martyr. In addition, there are many names, most of whom were killed in attacks by July fighters or died after August 5. There have been allegations of intentionally inflating the number of martyrs.

Reports from the PBI and other investigative agencies have shown that motorcycle accidents have been filed as incidents of the July Movement. In several cases, fathers have filed false cases against their wives and in-laws through their sons over divorce or family disputes. A senior investigation officer, who did not want to be named, said, “One party has tried to earn money by filing cases. Businessmen have been arrested and accused and money has been demanded by filing complaints. The victim, the plaintiff and the place of the incident—all are false. No truth has been found.”

The plaintiffs in the case are now denying

Some of the plaintiffs identified in the investigation are now denying the charges. Many cases involve people who are outside the country or have died long ago. These cases have been dropped from the investigation.

Law enforcement officials said that preparations are underway to bring those who filed cases with false information to justice. These incidents have not only confused the courts and investigative agencies, but have also raised doubts and questions in the public mind about the real events of the July Movement and the list of martyrs.

The investigation is ongoing. It is feared that if false information is revealed in many more cases, the controversy over the July martyrs’ number and the gazette could intensify.
