Jubo Dal Leader Hazrat Ali Accused of Attempting to Rape Woman by Promising to Secure Her Husband’s Release from Jail

Jubo Dal leader Hazrat Ali Mandal (35) has been accused of entering the house of a woman (45) and attempting to rape her after promising to release her husband, who was in prison, in Fulbaria, Mymensingh.

The incident allegedly took place on October 20 in Bailajan Karmakarpara of Putijana Union of the upazila. Hazrat Ali is the organizing secretary of the Jubo Dal of that union.

After the incident, the woman filed a case against the two at the Fulbaria Police Station around 12:30 am on Thursday, October 30. The incident came to light after that.

A video of the incident has already gone viral on Facebook. However, the police were unable to arrest the accused Hazrat Ali as of 9 pm on Friday.

The main accused in the case, Hazrat Ali, is the son of Md. Joynal Mandal, a resident of Bailajan Mandalbari in the union. He is campaigning for the post of Union Parishad chairman; he may contest the election with the support of BNP.

The other accused in the case is Md. Khorshed Ali alias Hasmat Ali (45). He is the son of the deceased Ramzan Ali of Hatileit Burar Bazar area.

According to police and locals, the woman’s husband was arrested on September 14 in a fight case. He is still in jail. It is said that Hazrat Ali used to visit the woman’s house, promising to free him.

Referring to the two as acquaintances, the woman alleged in her complaint, “For a long time, Hazrat Ali, with the help of Hasmat Ali, has been harassing me with bad proposals. When I did not agree to the proposal, they also threatened me. Hazrat Ali has tried to harm me before. There is a video about this.”

In the statement, she further said that on October 20, at around 11 am, the two accused entered her house and made sexual advances. When she did not agree, Hazrat Ali allegedly tried to rape her. Hearing her screams, the people around came forward and the two fled from there.

While talking on the phone, the woman said that Hazrat Ali used to come to their house regularly, promising to release her husband from prison. He also visited there several times on the day of the incident. At one point, he tried to take the woman out, promising to free her husband.

He alleged that when he did not agree, they entered the house, grabbed him by the collar, and threw him on the bed.

The woman said that she had started recording videos on her cellphone beforehand, thinking about safety. She did so out of fear that there would be evidence in case of an accident. The video later went viral on Facebook.

She further alleged that her husband was framed in a false case. She contacted various places to free her husband; later, her husband was granted bail last Monday through a lawyer. The woman has demanded a fair investigation and trial against Hazrat Ali.

He also alleged that he was being threatened.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Fulbaria Police Station Mohammad Rashedul Hasan said, “The video that has gone viral clearly shows the attempted rape of the woman. A case has been registered in this incident and the accused is absconding. Efforts are underway to arrest him.”

When an attempt was made to contact Hazrat Ali’s mobile phone to inquire about the complaint, it was found to be switched off.

Fulbaria Upazila Jubo Dal President Kamruzzaman Mir Azad said that organizational action will be taken against the accused after discussing the matter with the district and central leaders.
