Despite taking a slim 24-run lead in the first innings, Bangladesh went back on the back foot at the end of the third day of the Dhaka Test, with Roston Chase and Jomel Warrickan turning the tables. Warrickan took a pair of wickets after Chase struck three times to take the hosts to 79 for 6 at the end of the day. Bangladesh’s lead is now 106 runs.

On the third day, play was called off an hour before the scheduled time. Zaker Ali (18*) and Naeem Hasan (18*) were unbeaten as concussion subs. Mominul Haque was named in the playing XI as a replacement for Mominul Haque, who suffered a head injury while trying to take a catch in the first innings of the West Indies.

Bangladesh faced a setback in the second innings when they came out to bat. Tanjid Hasan was caught by Chase at second slip off Shamar Joseph. After scoring 7 runs in the first innings, the opener departed without opening his account.

However, the real collapse began in the 11th over. Chase bowled first innings centurion Shadman Islam (13). Two balls later, he sent Towhid Hridoy to the dressing room after making him catch the seals at mid-on. Then the West Indies captain trapped Nazmul Hossain Shanto (10) LBW. Chase took 3 wickets for just 3 runs in 10 balls.

The pressure increased after the tea break. Left-arm spinner Warican started the hunt by getting Liton Das (4) lbw. In the 22nd over, Mehedi Hasan Miraj was bowled out by his fast armour delivery. As a result, Bangladesh lost 6 wickets for 53 runs. However, Zaker and Naeem then put on an unbroken 26-run stand to see the rest of the day through.

Earlier, West Indies, who started the day with 155 for 4, were all out for 248 in their first innings. Earlier in the day, Shariful Islam caught Tagenarayan Chandrapaul (56), who had hit Tozul Islam for a six and reached fifty, at second slip. Chase and Justin Greaves then added a crucial 51 runs for the sixth wicket. Naeem Hasan broke the partnership, getting Greaves lbw for 46.

After lunch, Mirage stumped Joshua Bishop (15). Naeem then took four wickets in one over, dismissing Shamar Joseph and Warican. The Caribbeans were eventually bowled out for 248 runs. Naeem took 4 wickets for 33 runs.
