A police sub-inspector has been accused of harassing 208 out of 308 families in a village in Jamalpur. The affected locals have formed a human chain demanding justice for the accused SI Anwar Hossain.

The program was held on Friday, October 30th, at around 3 pm in the Charshi Khalifapara area of Titpalla Union No. 12 of Jamalpur Sadar Upazila.

Anwar Hossain Charshi is a resident of Khalifapara. He is the son of the late Ataur Rahman Atabali and is currently working at Badalgachhi Police Station in Naogaon.

According to local residents, a land division case has been filed in the Jamalpur Judge’s Court, with 208 family members as defendants out of a total of 308 families in the village.

They also accused Maulana Obaidur Rahman of attempting to seize their land, threatening to destroy crops, and threatening to frame them in false cases due to a land dispute.

Mamata Begum, who participated in the human chain, said, “Anwar Daroga has filed a false case against 208 families in our village. I am a woman. I have nothing to do with these things. So why am I being implicated in the case? I want justice.”

Expressing his anger, Bellal Hossain said, “SI Anwar has created a history of harassing people by trading cases. Let’s file cases against the remaining 100 families, let’s set a world record.”

Shahid, a resident of the area, alleged that people of all ages in the village, young and old, men and women, have been implicated in cases and harassed.

He said, “Even if a case is not filed in my name, I have been threatened that if I protest, a case will be filed against me as well. We want justice for Anwar Daroga.”

Hani Sheikh, a member of Ward No. 3 of Titpalla Union, said, “Anwar, a son of our area, has become a police inspector and has implicated 208 families out of 308 families in the village in a case. He has tried to implicate me in a case by abusing me and spreading false propaganda.”

He appealed to the government to withdraw the cases filed against so many people. Hani Sheikh also demanded justice for this incident.

Responding to the allegations, SI Anwar Hossain said, “The human chain formed against me was basically brought in by hired people.”

He also said, “Obaidur Rahman has been occupying my land for a long time. I have filed a case in court due to a dispute over our property. Some other people in the area have occupied our property. That is why we have filed the case.”
