After Two Years in Hiding, Jubo League President Hacked to Death in Front of His Family Upon Returning Home

Jubo League leader Anwar Hossain (45), a UP member of Srikail Union No. 1 of Bangra Bazar Police Station in Muradnagar Upazila of Comilla, had been in hiding since the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, 2024. But after returning home secretly after a long time, he was hacked to death in front of his family members.

The murder took place at around 3 am on Saturday, September 12, in Pennai village of the upazila. Bangra Bazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shafiqul Islam confirmed the incident.

The deceased, Anwar Hossain, was the son of Firoz Member of the village. He was the president of the Jubo League branch of Ward No. 2 of Srikail Union in Muradnagar Upazila.

After the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government on August 5, local BNP-Jamaat and NCP terrorists attacked his house several times. Fearing for his life, Anwar had been in hiding for a long time. He secretly returned to his house late on Saturday night.

But as soon as the news became known, BNP-Jamaat terrorists surrounded his residence at around 3 am. At one point, they hacked him to death in front of his family members and left.

Bangra Bazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shafiqul Islam said that the police rushed to the spot after receiving the information. The body has been recovered and sent to the Comilla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

He also said that the killing could have been caused by a struggle for dominance and political conflict in the area. Multiple police teams are conducting operations to arrest those involved. The process of taking legal action in this regard is underway.
