A group of angry locals have demolished the house of a union-level leader of Jamaat-e-Islami who was expelled from the organization for his involvement in immoral activities in Shibchar, Madaripur.
The incident took place in Paschim Charkamarkandi village of Nilkhi Union in Shibchar Upazila on Sunday morning, November 1. Taijul Islam was the Ameer of Nilkhi Union Jamaat.
Hundreds of men and women gathered there, holding banners demanding punishment for Taijul Islam. Later, some of them vandalized his house.
Taijul Islam had been a poet in the area for a long time. He was also in charge of the Jamaat’s union level. Since August 5, 2024, he had also been responsible for the party’s propaganda in that union.
After an objectionable video of him went viral on social media last Sunday, discussion, criticism, and anger erupted in the area.
Earlier, on October 27, a press release from the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Shibchar Upazila branch announced that Taijul Islam had been exempted from all organizational activities of the Nilkhi Union branch.
The notice said that allegations of unethical activities against him have been published on social media. The notice also mentioned that further action will be taken according to organizational rules if the allegations are proven.
Taijul Islam claimed in a post on his personal Facebook account that the woman in the video circulating on social media was his wife.
Shibchar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kamal Hossain said he received news of a human chain formed by locals demanding punishment for Taijul Islam in the morning. Later, some people vandalized houses. Police visited the scene after receiving the news. He said necessary action will be taken in the incident.
