A body of an Awami League leader was found in a canal near a rice field in Nachol Upazila, Chapainawabganj.

On Friday morning, local people noticed a body lying in a canal next to a rice field in Hakrail village and informed the police. The deceased, Kamrul Islam (50), was the son of Hossain Ali from the Surjapur village of Nachol Union. He was the president of the local ward Awami League. According to Shafiqul Alam, a member of Ward 2 of Nachol Union, Kamrul Islam had gone to the area for rice harvesting.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nachol Police Station, Mohammad Monirul Islam, said that Kamrul Islam had gone out of his house to use the restroom the previous night. On Friday morning, locals found him lying face down in the canal next to the rice field. The police recovered his body around 9:30 AM after receiving the news. To determine the cause of death, the body has been sent for an autopsy to the 250-bed district hospital.
