A court in Kuwait has sentenced a Bangladeshi expatriate to death for stabbing his close friend to death for posting private photos of his wife on Facebook.
The country’s criminal court issued this ruling on Tuesday, November 3rd.
Kuwaiti media reported this information, citing the Kuwaiti Public Prosecution.
According to the prosecution, the deceased was a friend of the accused Bangladeshi. Once, while visiting his house, the friend took pictures of him without his wife’s permission. Later, he published the pictures on Facebook. As objectionable comments were being received about the pictures, the accused requested the friend to remove them. However, he did not agree. On the contrary, he published more pictures.
This led to a dispute between the accused and his wife. At one point, the Bangladeshi man became angry with his friend and planned to kill him.
According to the prosecution, as planned, the accused waited outside their workplace with a knife. After confirming that the victim was there, he waited for her to come out. Later, when she came out, he stabbed her multiple times in the head and various parts of her body. She died on the spot.
The accused confessed to the murder in court.
He said he had a friendly relationship with the deceased. However, a dispute arose between them over the publication of his wife’s photo on Facebook. After repeated requests to remove the photo failed, he decided to take revenge.
The court, after reviewing the accused’s confession and other evidence in the case, found him guilty of deliberate and premeditated murder. He was later sentenced to death.
No statement has been received from the Bangladesh Embassy or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in this regard so far.
