The army has arrested a BNP leader named Ziaur Rahman (50) with domestic weapons and three kilograms of marijuana in Feni.
He was arrested in a raid in the Mathiara area of Sadar Upazila on Friday morning, December 12.
Feni Model Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Sajal Chandra Das said that he was sent to court on Friday afternoon after being charged under the Arms and Narcotics Act.
Based on a secret tip-off, a team from the army’s Mahipal Camp conducted a raid in the Mathiara area of Panchgachhia Union in Sadar Upazila early in the morning. In the raid, listed terrorist and drug dealer Ziaur Rahman was arrested. He is the son of Shafiqur Rahman of Uttar Mathiara village and the organizing secretary of the union BNP.
According to his confession, three kilograms of marijuana, 16 mobile sets, six knives, two chapatis, two axes, a machete and three rods were recovered from the house.
Captain Md. Fatin Istiak of Mahipal Camp, who conducted the operation, said, “There are many allegations against the arrested Zia. Based on specific allegations, a raid was conducted at his house and drugs, weapons, stolen mobile phones and various weapons used in robbery were seized.”
