Amid nationwide turmoil over the Yunus government’s decision to grant Myanmar a corridor, hackers have taken control of the official Facebook page of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Various quarters have expressed outrage over the breach of such a vital national institution’s social media account.

The incident has raised concerns about national security and questions about the Yunus government’s negligence.

The official Facebook page of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was hacked on Saturday night, May 3. The ministry confirmed the breach in an official statement, noting that during the hack, some inappropriate and unauthorized content was shared from the page, potentially causing confusion among followers.

The statement further mentioned that the page is currently under maintenance and efforts are underway to recover it. A team of technical experts has already begun investigating the breach and implementing advanced security measures to prevent similar cyberattacks in the future.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged citizens not to trust or share any posts, messages, or links from the page until full control is restored. They also cautioned against contacting the ministry through the hacked page.

As an alternative, the ministry assured that verified information would be disseminated through the official website, press releases, and other authenticated social media channels.

Recent trends show an increasing number of social media accounts of both public and private institutions being hacked, prompting concern among information technology and security experts. Against this backdrop, stakeholders have emphasized the need to strengthen social media security for critical government offices.
