It has been announced that Sheikh Hasina will virtually address a dialogue in the Indian capital, New Delhi, on August 5. This has caused widespread concern and dissatisfaction among some of the ruling parties in Bangladesh.
But the Indian government has no involvement in this event, the country’s Foreign Ministry said.
Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal made this clear at the regular briefing of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs on Tuesday, August 4th.
Responding to a question at the briefing, he said, “The program regarding Sheikh Hasina’s speech is being organized by a private media organization. The Indian government has no involvement in it and the government does not bear responsibility or support for any statement published in that program.”
Meanwhile, discussions are also underway in Bangladesh regarding the court’s directive on broadcasting Sheikh Hasina’s speech. Earlier, Tarique Rahman’s information and broadcasting advisor Zahed Ur Rahman urged the media to comply with the court’s order.
He said, “As per the court’s instructions, Sheikh Hasina’s statement cannot be broadcast in any media. If anyone broadcasts it in advance or publishes it later, it can be considered as disobeying the court’s order.”
However, online media outlets are paying little attention to his call. Many news portals have expressed their position, saying that in this era of free flow of information, there is no way to stop anyone from spreading their views.
