Jamaat MP Professor Golam Rasul’s house surrounded in Jessore, highway blocked

Jessore: Hundreds of local people have surrounded the residence of Jessore-4 MP and district Jamaat Ameer Professor Golam Rasul in protest. The incident took place in Nilganj area of ​​Jessore town on Tuesday (July 28, 2026) morning. The protesters also alleged that the MP’s house was attacked. Later, they blocked the Jessore-Narail highway and disrupted traffic.

Locals allege that there has been a long-standing dispute over the Al Madrasatush Shariah and the associated mosque in the Nilganj area. As a result, on Tuesday morning, MP Golam Rasul and his daughter Ananya were accused of attacking Ayan, a child student of the madrasa, and a woman named Rexna. The protesters claimed that Rexna suffered a head injury in the attack.

It is learnt that although an agreement was reached between the two parties the previous night, it has been alleged that when the madrasa opened on Tuesday morning, it was asked to remain closed. This sparked tension. Around 10 am, locals gathered in front of the MP’s house and started a protest. They alleged that the madrasa was threatened to be closed and demanded a proper investigation into the incident and legal action against those responsible.

Witnesses said that when a relative of the MP arrived at the scene around 11:30 a.m. to resolve the matter, a section of the angry crowd beat him up. Later, the situation escalated, and the protesters blocked the highway, chanting various slogans and demanding justice for the MP and his daughter.

Upon receiving the information, the Kotwali police reached the spot and tried to control the situation. The police said that negotiations are underway with both parties and law enforcement agencies are present at the spot.

On the other hand, MP Golam Rasul’s wife Sharmin Bina denied the allegations and said that her daughter Ananya is suffering from mental problems. Even after the madrasa was closed, some children were coming there and creating chaos. She claimed that charges were intentionally filed against them for protesting and the house was attacked.

As of the latest news, protests were continuing in front of the MP’s residence and traffic on the highway was being partially disrupted.
