Jubo League’s Lockdown Programme: Tight Security in Dhaka as Flash Processions, Road Blockades Reported in Several Areas (Video)

The banned Jubo League has announced that it will observe the ‘Dhaka Lockdown’ program today (September 20) in protest against the International Crimes Tribunal’s verdict. The Awami League has expressed its support for the program.

Law enforcement agencies have taken strict security measures in the capital Dhaka ahead of the program. Dhaka Metropolitan Police said that search and interrogation are being conducted by setting up check posts at about 250 important points including various entrances to the city. It is also reported that there have been incidents of hand grenade explosions, flash mobs and bus burning in the capital in the last two days.

There have been no major reports in the mainstream media yet of the success of the nationwide road or highway blockade program. However, various videos from Gazipur, Shariatpur, and Comilla on social media have shown Jubo League activists carrying out the highway blockade program by leaving tree trunks on the roads.

• Protests have been held in Debidwar Upazila of Comilla to protest the verdict of the so-called ‘Kangaroo Court’ and to make the Dhaka lockdown a success.
• The Gazipur Metropolitan Jubo League has also called for the program to be successful, and its leaders and workers have organized a procession.
• Earlier, there were reports of short-term flash mobs blocking the Dhaka Highway in Shariatpur, flash mobs on the highway in Sirajganj early in the morning, and flash mobs of Jubo League and Chhatra League in Gopalganj, disrupting traffic by creating obstacles.
