Smith Retires from One-Day Cricket After Champions Trophy Exit

Following Australia’s loss to India in the Champions Trophy semifinal, Steven Smith, who captained the team during the tournament, made a major decision. The star batsman has announced his retirement from One-Day International (ODI) cricket. The match against India in the semifinal was his final ODI appearance.

After the match, Smith shared the news with his teammates. However, he will continue to play in Test and T20 formats.

Since making his ODI debut in 2010, Smith has played 170 ODI matches, accumulating 5,800 runs, including 12 centuries and 35 half-centuries. In his final match, he scored a brilliant 73 runs.

Smith’s decision to retire from ODIs comes as he wants to give young players a chance, especially with the 2027 World Cup in mind. At 35, he feels this is the right time to step away from ODIs.

By retiring from the ODI format, Smith aims to extend his Test career. He expressed his excitement for the upcoming World Test Championship final, the West Indies tour, and the series against England.
