To ensure the safety, comfort and enhanced travel experience of foreign tourists, special ‘red zones’ are being considered in the country. These areas will have various types of entertainment facilities for tourists – they will get ‘everything’ there.

Today, Wednesday, October 14, the Italian Ambassador to Bangladesh, Mr. Antonio Alessandro, and the Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy, Mr. Federico Zamparelli, paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism, M. Rashiduzzaman Millat, at the Secretariat.

The issue of forming a special ‘red zone’ came up in the meeting and discussion.

The two sides also discussed the possibility of making travel to Cox’s Bazar and other tourist destinations in the country easier and more attractive for international tourists after the development and inauguration of Cox’s Bazar Airport.

During the meeting, issues of increasing air traffic between Bangladesh and Italy, investment in the aviation sector, development of aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facilities, and strengthening bilateral cooperation in tourism were discussed.

Emphasis was placed on the need to expand air connectivity between the two countries. Currently, Biman Bangladesh Airlines operates six flights a week.

Regarding the Italian government’s interest in increasing the number of flights on the Dhaka-Rome route, the minister said that plans to increase the number of flights will be made after the new aircraft is added to the fleet, keeping in mind the convenience of the large number of expatriates living in Europe.

The possibility of bringing Italian investment to Bangladesh’s aviation sector was also discussed. The interest in utilizing the experience and expertise of Italy’s Edge Company, Atitech SpA and Gilardoni was raised in terms of investing in setting up an MRO hub for aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul.

The increasing trend of Italian tourists in Bangladesh is also important. This continuous growth is creating opportunities for expanding tourist exchanges between the two countries. It was agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding to further enhance cooperation by improving tourist attractions, connectivity and visitor facilities.

At the end of the meeting, both sides expressed hope to further strengthen the friendly relations between Bangladesh and Italy and increase cooperation in air travel, aviation investment, and tourism development.

They hope that if the relevant initiatives are implemented, communication between the two countries will increase, new areas of investment will be created, and the development of the tourism sector will accelerate.
