A sensational incident of taking a teenage girl (16) hostage, recording an objectionable video and raping her on the pretext of settling a family dispute took place in South Keraniganj, Dhaka. Police have arrested Ismail, the accused local volunteer leader in this incident. Accused Ismail is the general secretary of the volunteer party in Ward No. 6 of Shubhadhya Union of South Keraniganj Police Station. Yesterday, Monday, September 7, the victim teenage girl filed a case with South Keraniganj Police Station as a plaintiff. Later, the police chief arrested the accused Ismail. Two more people named Raju and Shaon have been made co-accused in the case.

Background to the incident and hostage-taking tactics

The case report reveals that the victim got married to a young man named Faisal about two years ago and they have a one-year-old child. They had been living separately for some time due to strained relations between husband and wife. About a month ago, when she met Ismail, the leader of the volunteer group, he assured her of using local influence to match her with her husband.

In continuation of this, on September 6 (2026) at around 10:30 pm, Ismail asked the girl to come to a club, promising to resolve the dispute. When the girl went to the spot and called to find the club closed, Raju, the second accused in the case, took her from the ground floor of the building to the second floor of a rented house.

Blackmail and coercion

According to the victim’s complaint, a group of men surrounded her after she entered the house. First, they offered her to break up with her husband and demanded a large sum of money. When she did not agree to the offer, the accused physically tortured her and cleverly captured objectionable pictures and videos. Later, Ismail forcibly raped her around 11 pm, threatening to spread these pictures on social media. They also threatened to kill the victim and her family if she told anyone about the matter.

Legal action

Confirming the incident, South Keraniganj Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Abul Kalam Azad said that a case was registered under the Prevention of Violence against Women and Children Act immediately after receiving the written complaint from the victim. The main accused in the case, Ismail, was arrested in an immediate operation. He further said that the operation has been intensified to arrest the other two absconding accused in the case, Raju and Shaon, and other aspects related to the incident are being investigated.
