Former State Minister for Home Affairs Sohel Taj was stopped at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport while boarding a flight to the United States.

His sister Mahzabin Ahmed Mimi confirmed the matter to the media on Friday, September 26th.

Mahjabin said, “Sohel Taj’s foreign trip has been interrupted.”

When asked exactly when the incident occurred, he said, “Probably Wednesday.” However, he declined to elaborate on the reason for the detention. His short answer was, “Ask them.”

Meanwhile, the airport’s SS (Immigration) authorities confirmed that Sohel Taj could not leave the country due to the travel ban.

Sohel Taj was first elected as a member of parliament in the 2001 elections from the Gazipur-4 (Kapasia) constituency during the Awami League government. Later, in 2008, he was re-elected from the same constituency and was appointed as the Minister of State for Home Affairs in the cabinet on 6 January 2009. However, he resigned on 31 May of the same year, citing personal reasons.

He also resigned from the post of Member of Parliament on April 23, 2012. However, the first time his resignation was not accepted due to procedural reasons. Later, on July 7 of the same year, he submitted his resignation again and it was accepted. Since then, he has never been involved in active politics again.
