15 injured in clash between two BNP groups in Feni, blamed on infiltrating Leaguers

At least 15 people were injured in a clash between two BNP groups in Feni’s Daganbhuiyan upazila on the anniversary of the July riots. One side has blamed the incident on infiltrators from the Awami League to the BNP.

The clash took place in the upazila town at around 11:30 am today, Tuesday, August 5.

The injured are former district Chhatra Dal vice-president Kazi Jamshedur Rahman Fatik, Chhatra Dal activist Saimun Haque Rajib, Engineer Sohel, Sarwar, Belal, Sifat, Milon, Sanjit Das, Jahangir, Touhid and Manik, along with 15 others.

It is learnt that a victory procession was taken out under the leadership of Upazila BNP convener Akbar Hossain. At the same time, another party led by former municipal BNP general secretary Kazi Saifur Rahman Swapan and former district Chhatra Dal leader Kazi Jamshedur Rahman Photik organized a free medical camp at Zero Point.

As the Akbar Group’s procession passed through the area, there was a chase and counter-chase between the two sides, centered on provocative slogans, and brickbats were thrown.

Police tried to control the situation, but 15 activists from both sides were injured.

Upazila BNP convener Akbar Hossain said that their peaceful procession was ambushed by expelled Chhatra Dal leader Fatik and Abul Hashem Bahadur from Awami League. In this, 8 of their leaders and activists were injured.

On the other hand, Kazi Saifur Rahman Swapan said that the incident started when people from Akbar Group chanted slogans like ‘Bhuya Bhuya’ while passing in front of their medical camp. In this, 7 of their workers were injured.

The injured BNP leaders and activists claim that many people from the Awami League are infiltrating the BNP and are conspiring to break the BNP into pieces.

In this regard, Daganbhuiyan Police Station OC Md. Wahid Parvez said that the situation is currently calm and the police are on alert. Action will be taken if complaints are received.
