Digital display campaign against Yunus government’s misrule across Sydney

A digital campaign was launched in key areas of Sydney today, August 5, to protest the ongoing political crisis in Bangladesh, the destruction of democracy, and violence against the police. The day-long campaign featured digital billboards across the city highlighting various allegations against the “illegal Yunus government.”

The campaign highlights the heinous human rights violations in Bangladesh over the past year, including torture, murder, rape, minority oppression, suppression of journalists, and the army’s shooting of civilians. In particular, videos and messages about the deaths of civilians at the hands of the army in Gopalganj are highlighted through these displays.

Leaders of the Australian Jubo League, Australian Awami League, and Bangabandhu Parishad were present at this initiative.

Political activist Abdullah Al Noman said: “The terrible authoritarian rule that is going on in Bangladesh today, the way Yunus’s so-called government is strangling the country’s constitution, democracy and basic human rights – cannot be imagined in any free country. It is an extreme insult to humanity to have an illegal government in power to eliminate the existence of opposition views, take away voting rights and intimidate people.”

He added, “We will not remain silent spectators from abroad. Through this digital campaign, we are determined to expose all the misdeeds, torture and anti-people activities of the Yunus government in the international arena. This is not a one-day event – it is the beginning of an ongoing struggle.”

Political activist Dr. Abul Hasnat Milton said: “When people’s freedom of speech is taken away in the country, the voice of the media is suppressed, and innocent citizens are shot dead – then the Bangladeshis in the diaspora are the free voices who can attract the attention of the international community with the language of truth and protest.”

He further said, “Today, Bangladesh is going through an extreme political crisis, where the will of the people has no value. The barbarity of the killing of civilians in the army firing in Gopalganj is a blatant example of the naked use of the state apparatus. This digital protest is our response against that oppression. Until democracy is re-established in Bangladesh, we will continue this fight – both at home and abroad.”

Also present at the event were Dr. Sirajul Haque, Mehedi Hasan Kochi, Gausul Alam Shahazada, Engineer Nazmul Sheikh and Abdul Jalil, among others.

This digital campaign aims to attract international attention and call for the restoration of a fair democracy in Bangladesh.
