Show-Cause Notice Issued to Chhatra Dal Leader Over Facebook Post on Fuel Price Hike

The organization’s central committee has issued a show cause notice to Sajjad Hossain Hridoy, the organizing secretary of the Chittagong University (CU) branch of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal.

The decision was taken on Monday, September 21, following a post on social media platform Facebook protesting the increase in fuel prices.

It is learned that after the government’s recent announcement to increase fuel prices, CU Chhatra Dal leader Sajjad Hossain Hridoy wrote in a status on his personal Facebook ID:

“Since the beginning of student politics, most of the BNP programs I have participated in have been against the increase in oil, gas and electricity prices. Today, the price of fuel oil has been increased. I protested.”

Since his status went viral, there has been a huge uproar on social media and university campuses. The central leadership is viewing this statement as anti-organizational, going beyond party decisions or focusing on position.

In light of the incident, a notice signed by Chhatra Dal’s central office secretary Md. Jahangir Alam said that he has been asked to explain why permanent organizational disciplinary action will not be taken against him for violating the organization’s discipline while holding a responsible position.

The notice further mentioned that the show cause notice was sent on the instructions of Chhatra Dal central president Rakibul Islam Rakib and general secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir.

Sajjad Hossain Hridoy has been ordered to appear at the organization’s central office in Nayapaltan within the next 48 hours and provide a written explanation to the president and general secretary.
