Decomposed Body of 7-Year-Old Child Found in Pond Bushes Two Days After Disappearance, Panic Grips Brahmanbaria

Police have recovered the half-decayed body of a seven-year-old madrasa student in Nabinagar, Brahmanbaria, two days after she went missing. The child’s body was recovered from a bush near a pond in a large house in a village in the upazila on Monday afternoon (September 22). The child is the eldest child in the family and her father works at a bakery in Dhaka.

Body recovered from missing person

Family and police sources said that on Saturday morning (September 20), the child went to her uncle’s house in the same village. She left for her home at around 9:45 am. Fifteen minutes later, the child’s mother went to her uncle’s house to look for her daughter, but she realized that she had not reached home.

The family members immediately searched for the child by miking the area, making announcements on the mosque microphones, and posting on social media. When they could not find him, a general diary (GD) was filed with Nabinagar police station.

Finally, at around 3:30 pm on Monday, locals found the child’s body in a pond-side bush, a two-minute walk from the uncle’s house. Upon receiving the information, the police arrived and recovered the half-melted and disfigured body.

Family’s lament and demand for justice

The child’s maternal uncle lamented, “My sister or brother-in-law had no enmity with anyone. The body is decomposed, the face has turned black. We can’t understand anything.” The child’s father, who works in Dhaka, called the incident a murder and appealed for exemplary punishment for those involved.

Statement by law enforcement

Nabinagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Morshedul Alam Chowdhury said the police have started an investigation into the incident. The body has been recovered and sent to the Brahmanbaria District Hospital morgue for autopsy. The exact cause of death will be known after receiving the autopsy report.
