The Gono Odhikar Parishad has demanded the resignation of student advisors Mahfuz Alam and Asif Mahmud Sojib Bhuiyan, along with all other student representatives, from government sectors. They accused the advisors of mocking Islamic scholars and madrasa students and undermining national unity.

At an emergency press conference held on Tuesday, March 18, at the party’s central office, the demands were announced by the organization’s General Secretary, Md. Rashed Khan, and Senior Vice President, Faruq Hasan. Other notable attendees included High Council members Abu Hanif and Shakil Uzzaman.

Md. Rashed Khan stated, “Advisor Mahfuz Alam cannot tolerate Islamic influences and has ridiculed Islamic scholars and madrasa students. He has completely destroyed national unity. A controversial figure like him cannot remain in a government advisory position. We demand his resignation.”

He further accused the government’s information advisor of sowing discord by making divisive statements against groups such as Hefazat-e-Islam, Jamaat-e-Islami, BNP, and Gono Odhikar Parishad.

The party spokesperson and Vice President Faruq Hasan read a written statement at the press conference, saying, “We initially supported this government unilaterally, but it has failed to act justly with all parties. Instead, it has leaned towards specific factions, compromising its impartiality.”

Faruq Hasan noted that of the three student advisors appointed to the interim government, one has already resigned to lead a political party, questioning the ethical grounds for the others to remain in their positions.

He also referenced alleged irregularities in Dhaka WASA’s outsourcing recruitment process, citing media reports that over 2,500 outsourced workers are employed in various roles. He called for transparency and accountability in all government hiring processes, emphasizing the need for impartiality and ethical practices in governance.
