The hanging body of Mosha Maryam Khatun (19), the second wife of Satkhira-4 MP GM Nazrul Islam, who was the subject of a video scandal, has been recovered from a flat in NAM Bhaban under Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station in the capital. Police reached the spot on Sunday night after receiving information. At that time, Maryam’s body was found hanging from a fan in a room of NAM Bhaban.
DMP’s Tejgaon Division Deputy Police Commissioner (DC) Ibne Mizan told the media, “After receiving the information, the police along with me reached the spot. The body was seen hanging from the fan through the window of a room in the building. The forensic team of PBI and CID have been called. Then the police will enter the room.”
However, no information was available about when he committed suicide, said the DC.
Last July, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami expelled Gazi Nazrul Islam, a member of parliament from Satkhira 4 constituency, who came under fire after a video of a ‘private moment’ went viral on social media. The party decided to expel him for moral lapses.
Although Jamaat-e-Islam presented Maryam with a marriage certificate as proof of her marriage according to Islamic rules after the incident, according to Maryam’s biodata obtained through social media, it appears that Maryam was a minor. She had come to the said Jamaat leader for a recommendation for a government job.
