In the history of Bangladesh, the Awami League is not just a political party—it is a symbol of Bengali identity, a guide to liberation, and the foundation of state formation. From the language movement to the liberation war—the party has led steadfastly at every historical moment. Overcoming numerous obstacles and conspiracies, the Awami League has established itself as one of the main driving forces in the history of Bangladesh.

Since August 5, 2024, the party has been facing a fiery period. The blood of Awami League leaders, activists, and supporters, and the people who cherished the spirit of the Liberation War, is being shed, millions of Awami League leaders and activists are in prison, their families are being tortured, and Awami League politics has been banned. This is like a black chapter of oppression and tyranny! On the other hand, Bangladesh is practically going to become a dysfunctional country, lagging behind in economy, education, and development.

Even in this great crisis, the grassroots workers, supporters and the general public of the Awami League have not given up. They have kept the torch of resistance burning in villages, towns and ports – they are the real life force of the Awami League, the genuine pulse of the party and the impenetrable wall of the spirit of the Liberation War.

However, in today’s reality, the party leadership is somewhat isolated. There is a lack of effective coordination at the central level, as a result of which many workers are not getting guidance. Behind this situation, the weakness of ideological discipline within the party has been working for a long time. Personal interests have sometimes taken precedence over principles and ideals, as a result of which real workers have fallen behind.

Now is the time for self-criticism. There is a need to build a new leadership in the light of honesty, sacrifice and ideals. The Awami League must be brought back to the principled political culture that once united the nation.

Another important issue is the balance between young and old leadership.

The senior leaders of the party, although rich in tradition, lag behind in modern state thinking, communication with the new generation, technology-based politics, and international diplomacy. On the other hand, the younger generation, although skilled in social media and the world stage, lack leadership. Therefore, their participation in the leadership of the organization is almost absent. Therefore, a comprehensive intergenerational balance is needed now.

Without underestimating the experience of the elders, an advisory council can be formed with them, who will provide guidance on traditions and policies. On the other hand, the younger and middle generations will be responsible for policymaking, organizational restructuring, and connecting with the people.

The Awami League needs to regain its lost political wisdom and thinking power. Once upon a time, this party was the center of the country’s best thinkers, writers and teachers. Today, it is time to revive that talent and stream of thought.

The courage and sacrifice of the party’s leaders and activists ignites hope even in these dark times. The most important thing now is to renaissance the Awami League through unity, organization, and disciplined leadership.

These difficult times are the true test of leadership. When the people are awakening, the Awami League should also stand united with them and move forward with a new conviction – on the enlightened path of justice, ideals and humanity.
