Bangladesh’s young pacer Marufa Akhtar sent a message to Jemimah Rodrigues, who played a record innings after India’s historic World Cup semi-final win – a beautiful example of mutual sympathy, motivation and sharing of dreams in women’s cricket.

Jemimah’s unbeaten 127 against Australia at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Thursday helped India win by five wickets. Chasing a record target of 339, India reached Sunday’s final against South Africa. The innings, which was studded with 14 fours, ended Australia’s title defence and ensured a new champion.

When the cricket world was in a frenzy over Jemima, Bangladeshi pacer Marufa joined in. She posted a picture of Jemima on Instagram and wrote, ‘Jemima Didi, you gave us such a great match! Honestly, I can’t find the words. I will always pray for you.’

He added, “I wish you can take the team further and achieve greater success. My best wishes and prayers for the final.”

Marufa, just 20 years old, is now one of the brightest stars in Bangladeshi women’s cricket. Her story of rising from rural poverty to the international arena has already earned her immense respect and love.
