Allegations of widespread match-fixing have emerged in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), following a report by an international betting monitoring organization. The investigation revealed that 22% of the tournament’s matches were influenced by directives from gamblers. Additionally, eight matches were reportedly pre-determined, with at least 10 players directly involved in match-fixing.
The implicated matches include three involving Durbar Rajshahi, two from Fortune Barishal, two from Rangpur Riders, four from Dhaka Capitals, three from Sylhet Strikers, and one each from Chattogram Kings and Khulna Tigers. The monitoring organization disclosed specific dates and details of the matches in its report.
In a shocking development, evidence of match-fixing has been found against national team opening batsman Anamul Haque Bijoy. As a result, he has been barred from traveling abroad, raising serious concerns about his future in cricket.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has yet to issue an official statement but has promised a swift investigation into the matter. The scandal has highlighted the urgent need for stronger collaboration between the government, BCB, and other relevant organizations to combat match-fixing and other corrupt practices in cricket.
