Zia Mancha president arrested with liquor stockpiled for sale in Jhalakathi

The District Detective Branch (DB) of the Jhalakathi Police has arrested a leader of the Zia Mancha on charges of storing and selling liquor at a residence in Jhalakathi. The arrested person has been identified as Nasir Uddin Mridha (55).

Nasir Mridha was the former president of the Ward No. 5 branch of Nabagram Union in Jhalokati Sadar Upazila of Zia Mancha.

Yesterday, DB police raided his house in Makrampur area of ​​Nabagram Union in Sadar Upazila and arrested him. During the raid, 6 liters of locally brewed liquor were recovered from the kitchen of his house.

DB police said that through secret information, it was learned that Nasir Uddin Mridha had been storing brewed liquor in the kitchen of his house for a long time and selling it to drug addicts. Based on the information received, a team of the District Intelligence Branch led by SI Md. Alamgir Hossain conducted a raid on the house.

During the operation, 6 liters of distilled liquor were recovered from a white plastic container kept on the north side of the kitchen in front of the witnesses present. Nasir Mridha was then arrested. He is the son of the deceased Majedur Rahman Mridha of Makrampur village.

Regarding Nasir Mridha’s current involvement with the organization, former president of Union Zia Mancha Tanim Mallick said, “Although Nasir Mridha was in charge at the ward level in the past, the relevant committee was abolished four months ago. Currently, the organization has no organizational relationship with him.”

Local sources also revealed that Nasir Mridha had been involved in the production and sale of liquor in the area for a long time. It is alleged that he was involved in these illegal activities even while he was in Dhaka.

District Detective Branch OC Md. Touhiduzzaman said, based on a secret tip-off, Nasir Uddin Mridha was arrested from his house with 6 liters of brewed liquor. A case has been filed against him under the Narcotics Control Act and sent to court.

He also said that the anti-drug campaign will continue regularly.
